NEWSLETTER 2
Date
Dear Parents,
It is such a pleasure to be able to start a Newsletter with a weather report that is positive; what a difference a few dry days can make. This Newsletter will bring you up to date with a host of information about staff changes, the building work, the sponsor event and a visit to the Cultural Olympiad.
Building work
The extension to C5C is progressing very rapidly. The floor is in and the first fix has been completed. The window will be fitted on Thursday and the decorators should be at work by Monday next week. Handover day is scheduled for 15th October. The new furniture is here and Mrs Caldwell’s class is excited at the prospect.
You will have received a letter detailing a sponsored event we are holding over the next few weeks. The scheme we would like to introduce will be sited on the muddy patch covering the bottom third of the adjacent photograph. I do hope you are able to help.
Staffing
There are a several impending changes to our staff that I would like to need to make you aware of. Jennifer Palmer, our Care Manager is no more. She was married on Saturday to Philip Scriver and when she returns in just under a fortnight’s time will be known as Mrs Jennifer Scriver. I am sure you will all join with me in congratulating them and wishing them every happiness in the future.
The next two announcements are with mixed feelings; Mrs Swainston has decided that she will retire at the end of this term. Mrs Swainston has devoted her life to children and the last twenty or so years have been spent here. A talented teacher of her ability will be so missed but we have to find a replacement teacher and that process has begun. I have no doubt that there will be a lot to write about this in the next few weeks.
Unfortunately that is not all… Mr Coates has also decided now is the time to begin to reduce his immense workload and spend more time roaming the hills and dales. From the end of this term Mr Coates will be working for just three days a week.
I will keep you informed of the appointments as they are made. Mrs Pick continues to bloom. I do not know the exact date she will begin her maternity leave yet, but she is fit and well and will probably with us until some time in November.
The governors have a series of meetings planned to make all the appointments and if all goes to plan, all posts should be filled by the time we return for the second half of this term.
On the 27th of September some lucky 5 and 6 children went to be involved in a cultural Olympiad at the Sage, Gateshead. Although it was a long journey many children enjoyed this event. We did several dances and songs. The dances included a sword dance and an American square set dance called Who Were You With Last Night. We sang Hal and Toe, Black Socks and The Keel Row. A group of children, Anna, Alice, Kirstie, Rebecca, Elisha and Sarah played Bobby Shaftoe on the penny whistle and we all had a great time! Many thanks to Mrs Goundry, Mrs Kirkley, Ms Whelan and Mrs Armstrong and Mr Coates for preparing us. By Kirstie.
Yours sincerely,
M.N.Parker
