We were delighted to be invited to take part in this prestigious tournament , part of Newcastle Falcons? Festival of Rugby, as representatives of Darlington Primary Schools.
Our team of ten Year 6 players competed in a very strong pool of four teams for a place in the final stages. The first game showed us how high the standard was when we lost 7-4 to St. Edward?s from Middlesbrough. The opposition played very fast and determined rugby which Heighington matched for ¾ of the game before fatigue told and late tries were conceded.
We were better prepared for the following two games; losing one narrowly before ending our afternoon with a stylish win.
Heighington?s pool provided two semi finalists before St. Edward?s emerged as tournament winners.
What a thrill for our children to play at the Newcastle Falcons? Stadium on a perfect surface and to compete at a level far above that which we can replicate within school. Hopefully the lessons which our players absorbed will aid us at the Darlington Tag Festival later this month.
Players: Frances Wade, Robert Klentzeris, Alex MacFarlane, Clare Alderson, Heather Gore, Sean Pattison, Dominic Jakeway, Frazer Connelly, Matthew Howarth, Harry Parnaby.
